Project Management Office (PMO)
The enterprise Project Management Office provides oversight over Commission projects, the Software Release process (SDLC), and support to the Executive Director in strategic planning for the Commission. The PMO is responsible for fostering an environment that encourages open and willing communications. The department provides business owners with an avenue to suggest process improvements and new initiatives that benefit the Commission’s internal and external customers.
The PMO is comprised of two teams; Project Management and Systems Analyst. The Project Management team manages, facilitates, documents, researches and provides qualitative and quantitative measures for Commission projects. The PMO also supports smaller department initiatives that don’t fit the criteria for a PMO led project by providing scaled down project management documents and tools. The PMO follows the established Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) project management guidelines, which was designed based on the Project Management Institute methodology. The Systems Analyst team serves as the liaison between the Business and Information Systems department, allowing for effective and productive communications between the various parties. The team assumes the following roles in supporting the Commission’s goals:
- Supports four major software applications along with other supporting applications
- Requirements gathering for bugs and system enhancements
- Provides second level triage for production related system issues
- Serves as analysts on Commission projects
The PMO also oversees the Cooperative Office Education program at the Commission. The program works with county and city high schools to provide job opportunities for juniors and seniors to obtain real world work experience.
